The 4-ReelTime is a multichannel MPEG-2 playback card for PC compatibles. With the ability to play back four MPEG-2 streams simultaneously to a composite video output, along with MPEG-1/ MPEG-2 audio, it is ideally suited for applications such as video-on-demand, ad/commercial insertion and broadcast video servers, producing the lowest cost per MPEG-2 stream in the industry. Because of its advanced DMA bus master design, the PCI bus card is capable of playing four MPEG-2 files simultaneously while using less than 10% of the system CPU. Multiple cards may be used in one system. In addition to stereo MUSICAM audio, there are four broadcast-quality NTSC or PAL composite, S-Video and RBG/S video outputs. An on-screen display is included for overlaying graphics or text information onto the MPEG-2 video with varying degrees of transparency.

A genlock/video switching daughtercard is available to genlock each channel independently with an external source. A video switch on the board can select the MPEG-2 generated on the board or the external video as the output. Audio can be switched at the same time, with volume and tone control.

The card includes drivers for Windows NT(TM). A Developer’s Kit is available which provides support for OEM applications and can facilitate a port to other operating systems such as Unix derivatives.
